How to join the Peace and Justice project?

The Theme

The Theme in 2015-2016 is ‘My Peace, Your Peace’.  The idea behind the theme is: ‘We all depend on each other to create sustainable peace’. The first step is awareness: ‘we have to understand each other’s perspectives to build peace’. Within this broad theme, the project will focus on women and peace, peace and security and peaceful resolution of conflicts.

Who’s involved?

Dutch Embassies from around the world are taking part. The local Dutch ambassador and a local cartoonist will give guest lectures at schools and universities. Cartoonists will talk about the way they work and the impact of cartoons. Ambassadors will talk about the a country specific issue relating to peace and justice. After the guest lecture, the students get to work. They are invited to share their ideas for solutions that can contribute to international peace and justice. Students can submit their thoughts in the form of tweets, sketches, comments and photos, and our cartoonists will turn these into professional cartoons.

Agenda 2015-2016

At the end of the summer 2015, the best ideas and cartoons will be selected for an exhibition at the Peace Palace in The Hague, in the week of September 21, 2015, the International Day of Peace. To be included in this exhibition, the deadline for submissions is September 1, 2015. After the exhibition the project will continue, with a final deadline of September 1, 2016. The project will end with a major exhibition featuring the best ideas and cartoons during the Just Peace festival in The Hague in September 2016.
